How to Plan and Achieve Your Goals

So now you have the goal, you need the plan. To do this, look at where you are now and then look at all the steps you need to take to bridge the gap between your current reality and your desired destination.

The most effective plans share three qualities: they are specific, they are measurable, and they are broken down into small enough steps that you can take action today. Not next week. Not when conditions are perfect. Today.

One of the most powerful planning tools is what's known as 'backward planning.' Start with your end goal and work backward. If you want to achieve X in one year, what do you need to accomplish in six months? In three months? This week? Today?

Another crucial element is accountability. Research consistently shows that people who share their plans with others — and better yet, have an accountability partner — are significantly more likely to follow through. This is why our community group is such a powerful resource.

But perhaps the most important thing to understand about achieving goals is this: the journey changes you. By the time you reach your destination, you will be a different person than the one who set out. And that transformation — that becoming — is the real reward.
